Delhi: Class 11 student allegedly gang-raped inside sleeper bus; driver, conductor arrested

New Delhi, Aug 31, 2026: A 16-year-old Class 11 student was allegedly gang-raped inside a sleeper bus in Delhi’s Kashmere Gate area after she sought help from the driver and conductor amid heavy rain. Police have arrested the two accused, police sources said.
The incident took place on August 4 when the girl, a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district, was travelling to Noida to meet her cousin.
According to police sources, the girl had left home after being upset over being scolded by her mother a day earlier. She boarded a bus bound for Noida Sector 63, where her cousin resides.
However, due to heavy rain and darkness, she mistakenly got off at Pari Chowk and soon realised that she was at the wrong location. She then noticed a bus approaching and signalled for help. The bus stopped, but there were no passengers aboard. The conductor reportedly told her that the bus was heading towards Noida Sector 63, following which she boarded the sleeper bus.
Shortly after the bus began moving, the conductor allegedly made obscene advances towards her. The driver and conductor then allegedly raped her inside the bus and threatened to kill her if she resisted, the sources said.
The accused allegedly abandoned the girl near the Kashmere Gate bus terminal on Ring Road late that night before fleeing the spot.
The girl subsequently approached the Kashmere Gate police and reported the incident. She was assisted by the police and taken for a medical examination in the presence of a woman police personnel.
Based on her statement, police registered an FIR under relevant sections pertaining to gang rape, kidnapping and assault.
A police team examined CCTV footage, traced the bus and arrested the conductor from a parking facility in Timarpur. The bus was seized and sent for forensic examination, while CCTV footage was also taken into possession as part of the investigation.
According to police sources, the accused were returning with the empty bus after it had undergone repairs at a workshop in Surajpur. The vehicle had developed a mechanical problem and was taken to the workshop for repairs. After the repairs were completed, the driver and conductor were returning to the Timarpur parking facility when they encountered the girl at Pari Chowk.
A police officer, requesting anonymity, said the route largely runs along the Ring Road and highway, making frequent barricading difficult as it could cause severe traffic congestion. However, police personnel are deployed near the Delhi border at the Noida entry point, the officer said.
“The police informed the girl’s family about the incident the same night and called them to Delhi. Woman police personnel remained with her and provided assistance until her family arrived,” the officer said.
After completing the necessary formalities, police handed the girl over to her family. Police also conducted potency tests on the accused as part of the investigation.
Forensic examination of the bus has been completed, and various pieces of evidence collected from the vehicle have been sent for further examination.
