Death of five tigers in Karnataka due to poisoning: CCF

Chamarajanagar, June 27, 2025: Chief Conservator of Forest (Chamarajanagar Circle, Karnataka) T Hiralal said that the death of a tigress and its four cubs were due to poisoning.

Speaking to media persons after the post mortem, Hiralal said that the post mortem of the tigers was completed on Friday. The viscera and samples of the tigers have been sent to the lab for testing. The samples of the cow, which was left half consumed, has also been sent for test, he said.

The details on which poison was used and the amount used and other information will be available after the post mortem report is available, he said.

The adult tigress was around 10 years and the cubs were around eight to 10 months old. They might have died around three days ago, he added.

Investigation is being conducted to figure out if the cow’s carcass was intentionally laced with poison and kept inside the forest. Search is on to find the owner of the cow. Besides, a probe will also be conducted on whether the forest watchers and guards were not paid properly and if there were any lapses in the patrolling system, the CCF said.

A few residents of Koppa village have been taken into custody for inquiry, based on the preliminary information.

Meanwhile, NTCA has formed a special team to conduct a probe into the issue. NTCA Bengaluru regional office AIG V Harini is also in the probe team and has been told to submit a report within two weeks.
