New Delhi, Oct 19, 2026: The judicial custody of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das was extended by two days on Monday by a Special Executive Magistrate.
The two leaders were arrested following a protest at Jantar Mantar and remanded to five days of judicial custody on October 13.
Das and Ranka were produced before a newly appointed Special Executive Magistrate at Mandir Marg Police Station on Monday. They were taken into custody for allegedly climbing over a locked gate to enter Jantar Mantar, which had earlier been de-notified as an authorised protest site.
Along with other CJP workers, the two leaders displayed the national flag and raised slogans against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar before being detained and placed under preventive arrest.
The development comes amid allegations by the CJP that the bail proceedings have been deliberately delayed to prevent the release of its two convenors.
On Sunday, the Special Executive Magistrate handling their bail applications reportedly claimed to have received threats from unidentified persons. Police subsequently registered a non-cognisable report (NCR) in connection with the matter.
