Brij Bhushan Singh, Vinod Tomar acquitted by Delhi court in wrestlers sexual harassment case

New Delhi, Aug 3, 2026: A Delhi court on Monday acquitted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and former WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar in the alleged sexual harassment case filed by women wrestlers.

The verdict was delivered by the Rouse Avenue Court, bringing to a close a high-profile case that stemmed from allegations of sexual harassment made by several women wrestlers against Singh during his tenure as WFI president.

The Delhi Police had filed a chargesheet against Singh in 2023, accusing him of offences including sexual harassment, assault or use of criminal force against women, and criminal intimidation. Tomar was also named as a co-accused.

The court had reserved its judgment after hearing final arguments from both the prosecution and the defence. The proceedings were held in a closed courtroom, and Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Ashwani Panwar had earlier fixed August 3 for pronouncing the verdict.

During the final hearing, senior advocate Rebecca John represented the complainants, while the defence was led by advocate Rajiv Mohan, assisted by Rehan Khan and Rishabh Bhati.

The case originated from an FIR registered by the Delhi Police following protests by women wrestlers at Jantar Mantar, where they accused Singh of sexually harassing female wrestlers during his tenure as WFI chief.

Following its investigation, the Delhi Police filed a 1,500-page chargesheet on June 15, 2023, invoking Sections 354, 354A, 354D, and 506(1) of the Indian Penal Code.

During the trial, the court recorded the statements of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) member and the investigating officer before concluding the proceedings.

With Monday’s verdict, both Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar have been acquitted of all charges in the case.
