Bengaluru, May 1, 2026: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday ordered the suspension of the executive engineer of the Health and Family Welfare Department following the collapse of the compound wall at Bowring Hospital, which claimed seven lives on Wednesday evening.

The directive came after a review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister with Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar and officials from the Greater Bengaluru Authority and other government agencies.

During the meeting, Siddaramaiah raised concerns over the dumping of mud behind the wall as part of ongoing work, despite the risk of weakening the structure. He also questioned hospital authorities for failing to prevent soil dumping that contributed to the collapse and instructed officials to issue a notice to the hospital superintendent.

Monsoon Preparedness

Heavy rains in Bengaluru on Wednesday caused widespread damage, with over 250 trees uprooted and more than nine deaths reported. With more rainfall expected, the Chief Minister directed officials to desilt stormwater drains to prevent flooding. He also ordered the immediate removal of debris and fallen branches from roads, and stressed the need to prevent waterlogging in underpasses. Authorities have been instructed to barricade flooded underpasses if necessary to ensure public safety.
