Bengaluru, July 16, 2026: A BJP delegation on Wednesday met Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and urged him to intervene and stop the state government from issuing Permanent Residence Certificates (PRCs), alleging that the move is unconstitutional.

The delegation comprised Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashoka, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, and Opposition Chief Whip in the Council C.T. Ravi.

The BJP leaders alleged that the government’s decision to issue PRCs was an "anti-Constitutional" move and expressed concern over its implications.

Addressing reporters after meeting the Governor, R. Ashoka accused the Congress government of using the initiative to create a "vote bank."

"We have urged the Governor to stop the Congress government from issuing Permanent Residence Certificates. By granting PRCs to those who have lived in Karnataka for 10 years, the government is attempting to project them as permanent residents and extend benefits such as ration cards, health cards and other welfare facilities," he alleged.

Separately, former BJP MLA Manjunath also met the Governor and sought an investigation into the alleged creation of fake land documents in Malur in the Governor’s name.

Speaking to reporters, Manjunath alleged that forged records involving nearly 100 acres of land had been created and transferred to other individuals. He further claimed that around three acres of land, including a lake, a road and a crematorium, had been illegally converted by a person identified as Gangadhar, a native of Andhra Pradesh, with the alleged support of the district administration, local politicians and the police.
