Chamarajanagar, July 2, 2025: Even as the ripples created across the state due to the deaths of five tigers due to poisoning is yet to subside, now more than 20 monkeys were found dead near Kandegala, in Gundlupet taluk, Chamarajanagar district, on Wednesday. It comes under the buffer zone of Bandipur Tiger Reserve.
It is suspected that the monkeys might have been poisoned to death.
The carcasses were found in two sacks on Kandegala-Koodasoge road. It is suspected that the monkeys might have been poisoned to death somewhere else and disposed off here.
The passersby who noticed the sacks, opened it to find the carcasses of the monkeys and immediately alerted the forest department and police. Two monkeys were found struggling for life and were immediately taken to the veterinary hospital and provided treatment.
Gundlupet buffer zone Deputy Range Forest Officer Shivakumar visited the spot. Sniffer dog was also pressed into service.
A probe would be conducted and the guilty punished, he said. Post mortem will be conducted and the exact details will be available after the report, he said.
The incident in Chamrajanagar district, immediately after the death of five tigers has enraged the wildlife lovers and the enthusiasts, who seek stern punishment against those involved in poisoning the monkeys.
