Aamir Khan to produce documentary on President Droupadi Murmu’s inspiring life journey

New Delhi, Jun 20, 2026: The documentary will chronicle the extraordinary journey of President Droupadi Murmu, tracing her rise from a remote village in Odisha to becoming India’s first tribal President.

The film will be directed by acclaimed filmmaker and writer Svati Chakravarty Bhatkal, best known for directing Rubaru Roshni, the 2019 documentary anthology produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, according to a report by Variety India.

Offering an intimate portrayal of President Murmu’s life, the documentary will explore her personal struggles, hardships, and setbacks before she ascended to the nation’s highest constitutional office as India’s second woman President.

Filmed in her native village, the documentary aims to provide a deeper and more authentic perspective on her roots, set against the backdrop of tribal life and culture.

Widely admired for her resilience and determination, President Murmu is regarded as a source of inspiration for tribal communities across the country. The film will highlight both her personal journey and her evolution as a public servant, presenting a comprehensive account of her life before and after entering public service.

Meanwhile, the latest release from Aamir Khan Productions, Ek Din, starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, has struggled at the box office. The film, which marked Sai Pallavi’s Hindi cinema debut, reportedly earned only Rs 5.16 crore worldwide.
