AAP Leader Gurpreet Singh Gopi Shot Dead in Punjab’s Mamdot

Ferozepur, August 30, 2026: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Gurpreet Singh Gopi was shot dead by armed assailants who allegedly chased the motorcycle he was travelling on and opened fire in Mamdot town on Saturday, police said.

Gopi was riding with a man identified as Harpreet when the attackers, travelling in a car, pursued them and opened fire, according to SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu. Gopi died in the firing.

Police said an old dispute between the two groups was behind the attack, with an election-related dispute emerging as a key angle in the investigation.

The attackers also allegedly fired at a car carrying some of Gopi and Harpreet’s friends who were following them.

Police said the suspects have been identified and multiple teams have been formed to arrest them. Raids are being conducted at several locations.

The SSP said the main accused has a criminal background and is allegedly involved in unlawful activities.
