9 killed as sleeper bus catches fire on Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida

Greater Noida, Sep 24, 2026: Nine people were killed and several others injured after a sleeper bus caught fire on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, in the early hours of Thursday.

The incident occurred near the 33-km milestone under the jurisdiction of Jewar Police Station.

According to PTI, the bus was travelling from Delhi to Bihar. Gautam Buddh Nagar police PRO confirmed that nine people died in the fire.

Passengers recounted the terrifying moments after the fire broke out and smoke filled the bus. One passenger told ANI that he was asleep when another passenger woke him up and alerted him to the fire. He said the blaze had started in the front portion of the bus and the vehicle was filled with smoke. He managed to escape from the bus.

CM Yogi extends condolences

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took note of the incident and expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.

According to an official statement, he directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured and provide all possible assistance to the families of the deceased after contacting them.

Adityanath also wished the injured passengers a speedy recovery.
