5.0-magnitude earthquake strikes Tibet days after Nepal floods kill over 1,000

New Delhi, Sep 3, 2026: An earthquake measuring 5.0 in magnitude struck Tibet on Thursday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres (6.21 miles), GFZ said.

The tremor struck days after devastating floods and landslides along the China-Nepal border claimed more than 1,000 lives in Nepal.

Chinese state media had earlier reported that 21 people were killed in Tibet, taking the overall death toll from the disaster that began on August 26 to 1,273.
