New Delhi, May 24, 2026: At least 24 people were killed and several others injured after a powerful bomb explosion targeted a train carrying military personnel in Pakistan’s restive southwestern province of Balochistan on Sunday.
According to reports, the blast occurred near a railway track at Chaman Pattak in Quetta when a car laden with explosives rammed into one of the train’s carriages as it was passing a signal point. The impact triggered a massive explosion, causing two coaches to overturn and catch fire.

The train was reportedly transporting army personnel and their family members to Peshawar for the Eid holiday celebrations, which are scheduled to begin on Tuesday. News agency AFP reported that many soldiers and civilians were among the victims.
Visuals from the scene showed thick black smoke billowing into the sky and severely damaged train coaches lying derailed. Rescue personnel and local residents were seen climbing over the wreckage in search of survivors, while injured passengers were carried away on stretchers.
Several vehicles parked about 25 to 30 metres from the railway tracks were completely gutted in the blast. A nearby multi-storeyed building also suffered extensive structural damage, with shattered windows and collapsed walls.
Armed security forces cordoned off the area as rescue and relief operations continued.
The banned militant outfit Baloch Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the attack, describing it as a suicide operation carried out by its Majeed Brigade unit.
In a statement, the group said the attack specifically targeted a train transporting “occupying forces” from Quetta Cantonment and claimed full responsibility for the incident. The organisation also stated that detailed information regarding the operation and casualties would be released later.
