
Thiruvananthapuram, May 29, 2026: Police on Thursday arrested more CPI(M) activists, including local leaders, in connection with the attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team in Thiruvananthapuram, even as around 300 identifiable persons were named in the case.
According to the FIR, apart from taxi driver Syam, ED officer Dixon David and personnel from the CRPF and Kerala Police were also attacked during the incident.
Police have invoked various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including attempt to murder, along with provisions of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act against the accused.
Four CPI(M) activists were arrested on Wednesday, while those taken into custody on Thursday included former city corporation councillor I P Binu. With the latest arrests, the total number of persons arrested in the case has risen to 12.
Reports said several accused had taken shelter at a CPI(M) office in the city before later surrendering to the police. Senior CPI(M) leaders who were allegedly present at the spot during the attack may also be named in the case.
State Police Chief Ravada Chandrasekhar told reporters that although the police had not been informed in advance about the ED raids, adequate police personnel were deployed at all raid locations after CPI(M) workers began gathering there.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister V D Satheesan has remained silent over allegations of police lapses in preventing the attack on ED officials. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala held discussions with senior police officers to review the incident.
Sources said ED officials had seized a mobile phone and bank account details linked to former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter Veena T. Further action is expected after the analysis of the seized materials.
