‘Will not contest, but..’: Yediyurappa resigns from electoral politics ahead of Karnataka polls

Belagavi, Jan 31, 2023: Former Karnataka chief minister and BJP strongman BS Yediyurappa, on Monday, announced his decision to step back from electoral politics and not contest in the upcoming assembly elections in the state.

However, he reiterated that he would build the party by touring Karnataka and doing everything he can to bring the BJP to power again.

While talking to the media in Belagavi, the senior BJP leader said, “There is no chance that I will contest. I have already resigned from MLA and CM posts. I’m turning 80 years old. I will build the party by touring and will do everything I can to bring the BJP to power again.”

Yediyurappa resigned from his previous position as Chief Minister in July 2021. He was replaced by the current CM, Basvaraj Bommai. Siddaramaiah began his electoral politics as “Purasabha’ president in Shikaripura.

He was first elected to the Assembly from Shikaripura in 1983 and went on to win eight times from there.
