GMU welcomes students from 115 nationalities, holds first veterinary White Coat Ceremony

UAE, Sep 24, 2026: Gulf Medical University (GMU) welcomed its latest cohort of students at its White Coat Ceremony 2026 held at Thumbay Grounds, marking the university’s student community reaching 115 nationalities since its establishment.
Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of Thumbay Group, was the chief guest at the morning and midday ceremonies, while Prof. Manda Venkatramana, Chancellor of Gulf Medical University, presided.
Addressing the new students, Dr. Moideen said GMU had grown from being among the leading universities in the Gulf to becoming “one of the finest medical universities in the world.”
Prof. Venkatramana told students that the white coat ceremony marked the beginning of their professional journey rather than an achievement in itself. He urged them to remain curious, maintain integrity and balance scientific knowledge with compassion.
Students from Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Anaesthesia Technology, Medical Imaging Sciences, Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, Optometry, Healthcare Management and AI in Healthcare took the professional oath. Students from the Doctor of Medicine, Graduate Entry MD, Biomedical Science and Thumbay International Pathway Programme also participated.
Families unable to travel to Ajman were able to watch the ceremony through a live telecast.
GMU holds first veterinary White Coat Ceremony
Dr. Kaltham Ali Kayaf, Director of Animal Health and Development at the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, joined as chief guest for the university’s first White Coat Ceremony for Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students. Dr. Thumbay Moideen presided over the ceremony.
The Thumbay Medicity campus is also set to have a Thumbay Veterinary Hospital. According to GMU, the initiative reflects an integrated approach connecting human, animal and environmental health.
GMU said its students receive exposure to clinical environments from their first year. Its teaching network includes Thumbay University Hospital, Thumbay Rehabilitation Hospital, Thumbay Labs and the wider Thumbay Healthcare system, providing clinical exposure, simulation-based training and research opportunities.
Established in Ajman in 1998, Gulf Medical University is a private health sciences university offering programmes in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, health sciences, veterinary medicine, healthcare management and AI in healthcare.
The university is part of the Thumbay Group and said its healthcare network provides around 3,100 beds for clinical training.
