New Delhi, Mar 31, 2026: The death toll of Indian nationals in the ongoing West Asia conflict has risen to eight, after another citizen was killed in a drone strike carried out by Iran on Kuwait.

The Embassy of India in Kuwait confirmed the death in a post on X on Monday, stating that it is closely coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities to provide all necessary support and assistance.

India’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Paramita Tripathi, later visited the mortuary where the body was kept. She met Brigadier Abdulrahim Al-Awadhi, General Manager of the General Department of Criminal Evidence, and expressed appreciation for the prompt and sensitive support extended in the matter.

The embassy is in touch with the family of the deceased and is working with local authorities to ensure the early repatriation of the mortal remains.

According to Aseem R. Mahajan, Additional Secretary (Gulf) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), eight Indian nationals have lost their lives in the region since the conflict began, while one person remains missing.

The escalation followed Iran’s retaliation to a military offensive launched against it by Israel and the United States on February 28, with Tehran targeting Israel and its allies across West Asia.

Earlier incidents include the deaths of three Indian seafarers in attacks on merchant vessels in the Persian Gulf, two workers in a strike on an industrial facility in Oman, one casualty in a drone attack in Riyadh, and another in Abu Dhabi due to falling debris during the interception of an aerial strike.

The MEA said it is closely monitoring the evolving situation and reiterated its call for restraint, de-escalation, and dialogue to bring an early end to the conflict.

It also noted that nearly 5.5 lakh Indians have returned from the region since the conflict began.
