Mangalore Today News Network

Chicago, Sep 06, 2022: The Mangalorean Konkan Christian Association(MKCA), celebrated its 20th annual Monti Fest Celebration at St. Hubert’s Church Hall at Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The Monti Fest celebration is unique to the Konkani Mangalorean catholic community. This festival is like ‘Thanksgiving in USA’ and in India akin to the ’harvest festivals of various communities’, it is celebrated in different forms like Onam in Kerala, Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Ganesh Chaturthi, Holi, Krishnashtami, Novroz and so on. Mangaloreans traditionally celebrate the birth of the Virgin Mary’s feast and give Thanks to Mother Mary in gifting us with Jesus Christ the savior of the world and providing us with a new crop of the season. During this time a new crop is blessed and distributed to the devotees, who in turn take them home and have a family get-together to celebrate the birth of Mother Mary. It is also observed as the ’day of the girl child’ in India.  Monti Fest is now observed in many cities world over where people of Mangalore are settled and give thanks to God universally for His blessings.
