This is the second such drone strike on Abha airport in the last 24 hours. No outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

The Saudi-led military coalition fighting the Iran-backed Shiite rebels in Yemen did not elaborate on the attack or provide details about the casualties.

The coalition said its forces had "intercepted" the explosive drone launched by the Houthis. The coalition said shrapnel was scattered in the vicinity of the airport but there was no damage.

The latest attack comes after the coalition shot down two drones, targeting Jazan and Najran, on Monday.

In February, another drone attack by the Houthis on Abha airport resulted in a civilian plane catching fire.

Since 2015, Yemen’s Houthi rebels battling the Saudi-led military coalition have targeted international airports, along with military installations and critical oil infrastructure, within Saudi Arabia.
