Wedding special: Post wedding, bride and groom drive off in a JCB earthmover

Mangaluru, June 22: Chethan and Mamatha from Puttur in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district went home in an earthmover, one that Chethan has been operating for a living.

Chethan and Mamatha from Puttur in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district are your average bride and groom – and then again they aren’t.

It’s been a decade since the JCB employee has been operating an earthmover for a living – and to show his love and appreciation for his job – he took his new bride for a ride on the machine. Needless to say, this was a wedding procession with a difference. Crowds were lined up on the side of the street, and for Mamatha, it would have indeed been a wedding to remember.

But the shy girl was not enthusiastic about this idea at first. “She first said she won’t sit on it. She was very shy. Then I told her I am with her and she agreed,” Chethan said, speaking to media houses.

The JCB earthmover was cleaned and readied for the big day – and on their wedding day earlier this month, it was decorated with flowers and hearts and balloons. After the ceremony ended, Chethan hopped on enormous shovel and helped his bride sit on it as well. And to the sound of drums, the giggling couple made their way to their marital home.

According to reports, once home, as per wedding rituals in Karnataka, the couple were asked to do regular household chores. While Chethan was asked to grate a coconut, Mamata was assigned the task of cleaning a fish (which is a common task given to a new bride). Later, she was asked to prepare tea for the guests.
