Kolkata, April 13, 2021:      Have you started neglecting your hobbies while making an attempt to pursue a balanced lifestyle? In that case, you must read the story of a 77-year-old violinist who went viral after he showcased his immense love for his wife as well as music.

Swapan Sett

Swapan Sett, a resident of Kolkata’s Balaram Dey Street, garnered a big round of applause from the internet after his story went viral. The elderly man’s wife was diagnosed with uterus cancer in 2002 and, in order to raise funds for her treatment, he travelled across the country to play the violin.

Sett is a painter, sculptor and violinist. He decided to use his art to collect funds for his wife’s treatment, and continued to do so for 17 years. His wife recovered in 2019. However, Sett continued to travel across cities and play the violin to entertain people. He is usually seen wearing a white kurta and dhoti while playing the instrument.

A video of Swapan Sett playing the violin outside a shopping mall in Kolkata was shared on Facebook earlier this month.

"He is Swapan Sett, a painter, sculptor and violinist and has his studio in Balaram Dey Street Kolkata. In 2002, his wife was diagnosed with uterus cancer and for her treatment which was expensive, he used his art to collect funds for the treatment and travelled to various places to play the violin and do sketching," the caption of the post reads.

"After 17 years of struggle, his wife completely got well in 2019 and is leading a healthy life. He still travels to different corners of the city to present his art. Also, he gives flying kisses for free to anyone who stands and sees him play.”

The post has garnered thousands of likes and views since it was shared on social media and has gone viral, quite obviously. People are all praises for the elderly man’s determination to pursue his hobby. Some users also wished to meet Swapan Sett and take violin lessons from him.
