Door of truck carrying cash worth $175,000 opens on Atlanta Highway, People rush to collect money

Mangalore Today News Network

July 12, 2019: People driving through Atlanta highway were pleasantly surprised when thousands of dollars cash was floating in the air and onto the road. This week an armoured truck’s side door opened on the highway near Ashford-Dunwoody Road, spilling about $175, 000 cash on a stretch of  I-285. Now authorities have asked people who collected cash to return it or face criminal charges. The entire sight was captured on a video by a passing motorist and needless to say the footage is going viral.

Truck.

About a dozen drivers stopped their cars to collect the money spilling out on the road. By the time the police arrived, the drivers were long gone and there was no cash left too. The police recovered only $200. The motorist who captured the video told WSB radio, "I saw a bunch of paper floating around in the road and everybody pulling over on the shoulder, and as I got closer I noticed it was all just cash.

Sgt. Robert Parsons from the police department said that they have taken note of the license plate numbers from the video. And if the people fail to return the cash, they will be charged with theft. "When you come into control of property that you know is lost or mislaid and you appropriate that to your own use, without returning it to the owner, certainly it is a crime," he told in a report.

But only two people have honestly returned the money so far. While one person handed over $2,000, while another returned over $600. The police officer said it is quite obvious for one to get tempted to pick up the money falling out in the air, but one should also give a reasonable thought that the money belongs to somebody. Fair enough!
