Sridevi dies at 54, leaving Bollywood and country in indescribable shock

Dubai, Feb 24, 2018: Legendary actress Sridevi left the country in shock today. She died of a massive cardiac arrest in Dubai, where she was attending her nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding. Sridevi was 54 years old. Her untimely death has left an unbelievable void in the Hindi film industry.

Along with husband Boney and younger daughter Khushi, Sridevi had travelled to the emirate to attend actor Mohit Marwah’s wedding.

Janhvi, Sridevi and Boney’s elder daughter, couldn’t join them in Dubai as she was busy shooting for Shashank Khaitan’s Dhadak.

Well-wishers are now rushing to Sridevi’s house in Mumbai to be with Janhvi.

SRIDEVI’S FILM CAREER

Known for her iconic roles in Hindi films such as Chandni, Nagina, Mr India, ChaalBaaz and many more, Sridevi had acted in over 275 films including several in regional cinema like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

With Julie (1974), she made her Bollywood debut as a child actor. In 1979, Sridevi starred as the leading lady in Solva Sawan, a remake of Bharathiraja’s Tamil film 16 Vayathinile.

For her contribution to Indian cinema over the years, Sridevi was awarded Padma Shri in 2013.

After 15 years of hiatus, Sridevi made a stellar comeback in Gauri Shinde’s film English Vinglish, which received a warm welcome at the box office.

She was last seen on the silver screen in a revenge thriller titled Mom.

"I have no words," wrote Priyanka Chopra in a tweet. "Condolences to everyone who loved Sridevi. A dark day. RIP."

Several other members of Indian film fraternity took to social media to express shock and grief early on Sunday morning.
