Pak Actress Laila Khan Mysteriously Missing Since 11 Months

Mangalore Today / ITV

Mumbai, Dec 15 : The Mumbai Police is grappling with a curious case of a Pakistani actress Laila Khan missing from her home in Oshiwara since the last eleven months. Her car was found abandoned near a lake in Srinagar several months ago.

Police believe she had left with her family to an African country, and since then there has been no traces about her. DCP Pratap Digwekar told India TV that the actress’s cellphone calls are being checked.

Laila Khan made her debut opposite Rajesh Khanna in what was billed as his comeback film in 2008, Wafaa.

Police in Jammu and Kashmir, where a car belonging to her was found abandoned several months ago, have been trying to find Laila Khan, who had acted in the movie under the screen name Sara Khan.

No headway has been made despite visits to her house in the city and her last-known location in Kashmir.

Industry sources say that Laila has been untraceable for the last six months, when she suddenly fell off the map during a trip to Kashmir. Her car, a black Skoda, was found abandoned in Srinagar.

Item girl  Rakhi Sawant’s brother, Rakesh, who had directed Wafaa, said he was among to first to realise that that Laila was untraceable.

“I had signed her for a three-film deal, and was planning to do another film with her soon. I started calling her up as well, but there was no reply. I realised there was something fishy,” he said.

Then, on a trip to Kashmir for a music video shoot, Rakesh heard that she had last been seen in Srinagar, and that she had mysteriously disappeared

“After coming back to Mumbai last month, I went to the Oshiwara Police Station. I told the cops whatever I’d heard about Laila’s disappearance from the locals in Kashmir.”

By then, the Oshiwara police had already been visited by the team from J & K, who had traced the car to Laila’s address.

They even went to Sunshine Apartment, where Laila lived, and found that she and her family had not been home for months.

“The police came to the building two months ago searching for Laila,” the building’s secretary, Shoaib Noorani, told Mumbai Mirror.

“It was a team from the Detection Branch. They asked me whom the flat belonged to. I gave them all the details.”

API Sanjay More of Oshiwara Police Station, said: “A team from the J&K Police came to Oshiwara to investigate the background of Laila Khan. They had found a vehicle owned by her in Srinagar, and since it was abandoned, suspected that its recovery may have to do something with terror activities,” he said.

“Laila and her family were not there. Perhaps they’ve moved out of the city. So far, no one has lodged a missing persons’ complaint with us.”
