Revealed: Thanks to her mother, here’s an update on Salman Khan’s often-discussed pehla pyaar Shaheen. The childhood sweethearts, who both lived in the neighbourhood of Bandra, had almost married way back in the late 1980s.

The two had been dating even before Salman achieved stardom with Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). Shaheen’s mother Bharati Jaffrey – daughter of the legendary Ashok Kumar aka Dadamoni – in the course of an informal chat with SpotboyE, said that Shaheen is “absolutely adorable. She’s the daughter of my second husband, Hamid, from an earlier marriage, and I can tell you that there isn’t a mean bone in her body.”

Incidentally, the late Hamid Jaffrey was the brother of the stalwart actor Saeed Jaffrey who passed away last year.

 

Added Bharati Jaffrey, “Shaheen is very warm and loving. I’ve always felt like her mother. Please avoid calling me stepmother. That wouldn’t be fair to either her or me. Shaheen and Salman knew each other ever since they were teenagers. We’d treat Salman like family, often ordering him to get us our morning loaf of bread from the nearby bakery. And Salman’s family also treated Shaheen like their one of their own. It was taken for granted that they’d get married some day.”

 

They broke up when Salman started showing interest in the then-crowned Miss India, Sangeeta Bijlani.

“We never bring up Salman’s name ever with Shaheen now,” Bharati Jaffrey stated emotionally. “It didn’t work out and so be it. Whatever happens, happens for the best, doesn’t it?”

Shaheen Jaffrey, now Shaheen Aggarwal, is married to a businessman and is a mother of two children – a son and daughter who are in their early teens.

Shaheen had moved on after the break-up, worked with an airline company and was based in Hong Kong for some years. She met businessman Vikram Aggarwal on a flight. Eventually, they married in 1994 and now reside in Worli.

Besides teaching drama and diction at South Mumbai’s Cathedral and John Connon High School, Shaheen also writes short stories but hasn’t published them yet.

Meanwhile, as the entire world knows, 50-year-old Salman remains a chronic bachelor and has never gone on record about his pehla pehla pyaar.
