Mumbai, April 7, 2014: A Pakistani court today directed police to register a case against film actress Meera and her husband in connection with their alleged sex video.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Safdar Bhatti issued the order after neither Meera nor her husband Navid Shahzad appeared before the court for the consecutive third hearing.

"A case should be registered against the couple in accordance with law and investigate their objectionable video," the order says.

A case may be registered against the couple under controversial Hadood Ordinance which deals with sexual acts and proposes Islamic punishments, it says.

The petitioner Bashir Ahmad had accused Meera and Navid of committing a ’sin’ by filming their sexual act.

"The couple also spread obscenity in society and challenged Islamic values," he said asking the court to give exemplary punishment to the couple for their sinful act.

The alleged homemade video featuring Meera and Navid sparked a controversy in the country when it was released on the internet a couple of months ago.

Although Meera claimed that it was a fake video, Navid insisted since he and Meera are husband and wife there was no point in making the video controversial.

"We are a couple and those making hue and cry over (our sex) video should stop propagating against us," he said.
