Missing series: Tanisha’s Bollywood career never really took off

January 06, 2020:  Bollywood is not for everyone. Some realize it sooner and tread different paths to make different achievements in life, while others keep trying till the industry throws them off.

 

In this giant rigmarole of realizations and refusals, we have seen many of our loved celebs fading out into oblivion, leaving us wondering, “where are they, how are they...”

We are, hence, starting this “Missing Reports” series where we dig deep into the untold stories of such missing stars. Today we are covering Kajol’s li’l sister, Tanisha Mukherjee.

Lukewarm debut

 

Tanisha’s Bollywood entry was quite a disappointing one and went rather unnoticed.  As opposed to what star kids get today – an entire script formulated by the biggest of filmmakers, keeping them central – Tanuja’s younger daughter was one among the brigade of newcomers in an unexciting  Sssshhh. The movie did an average business at the ticket counter, but no one took notice of Kajol’s sister.

Unnoticed among a legion others

 

The response of Tanisha’s debut was entirely different from what Kajol had experienced after the release of Bekhudi some 10 years ago. Though Bekhudi was a box office flop, it handed Kajol an instant prominence. Her abilities were recognized by producers who would line up at her gate with movies. Tanisha, on the other hand, got lost in the multi-starrer. Her next release, Popcorn Khao! Mast Ho Jao (2004) only made things worse for her.

Hello, Television!

 

After a 5-year-long hiatus, she returned to limelight, this time with a television gig. As one of the 23 inmates of Bigg Boss 7, she kept making headlines for the entire run of 104 days by adding to the controversies. Her increasing intimacy with Armaan Kohli was what the tabloids were surviving on. Tanisha raced through the end and was the runner-up; her arch rival, Gauhar Khan won the show.

Blink and misses on TV

 

Tanisha seemed to have enjoyed her stint with Bigg Boss. Completely out of the movie scene, she turned into a reality show judge in 2014, with Gangs of Haseepur. She was seen contesting on Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 7, and showed up as a guest in many similar TV shows. Now, whether the television audience remembers seeing her on these shows or not, is open for debate.
