90 Heroines who are still relevant, even after quiting movies long back

Mangalore Today News Network / Yahoo

Nov 13, 2020:    We have stepped into a new decade already, but the obsession around the 90s Bollywood is long from wearing out.

In its music we remake so often, in the fashion of chokers sand dungrees that we keep revisiting, that decade will linger for a few more years.

Even the actresses of that era remain to be fan-favorites, despite having relinquished the silver screen years ago. Here are some of your favorite actresses from 90s Bollywood who are still ruling headlines.

Karisma Kapoor

Karisma distanced herself from acting after marriage in 2003. Though she tried a comeback after her separation, it was a little too late for her to reclaim her erstwhile cinematic glory.

But the gorgeous mother of two keeps the paps on their toes 24*7. She makes it a point to mark her attendance at almost all red carpet events and filmy parties. When not partying, she goes on vacations with sister Bebo, Sail Ali Khan and li’l Taimur. She may not be in the movies, but is still relevant in the tabloids.

Sushmita Sen

Sushmita quit acting right after adopting her younger daughter Alisa in 2010. It has been 10 years since she has been away from the silver screen, but she manages to stay in headlines for reasons aplenty.

Be it her crazy mind-boggling work out sessions at the gym or her rocking romance with the handsome model Rohman Shawl, this diva always finds a way to stay in news.

Pooja Bhatt

Much like half-sister Aalia Bhatt, Pooja made an early entry in the industry. However, she was not as lucky as Aalia when it came to Box Office collections and her acting career was wrapped up by the late nineties and she then ventured towards film-making.

Though she is on a professional hiatus, her commentary of socio-political issues gather a lot of traction on social media, keeping her relevant even decades after her departure from the screen.

Nagma became a household name with the 1990 hit, Baaghi. She then moved to South cinema and subsequently made her way into the Bhojpuri film industry. It has been ages since her last Bollywood release; but she is has not washed away from the memories of people all over India.

Being a vocal supporter turned member of the Indian National Congress, Nagma keeps visiting the headlines - though for different causes - every now and then.

Raveena Tandon

This mast-mast actress had a gradual exit from the cinemas after tying the knot with distributor, Anil Thadani in the early 2000s.

But she frequents social gatherings in the Bollywood circuit and waves to the paparazzi with a warm smile every time. Again, she has also been judging various talent shows, and partakes in socio-political activities often.

Shilpa Shetty Kundra

This beauty has only gotten better with time even after quiting the movies arena long back.

After birthing son Viaan, Shilpa keeps herself busy judging dance competitions of television, marking her presence at all the hot events and parties, and reaches out to her fans through her cookery channel on Youtube and candid moments shared on Instagram.

Sonali Bendre

After staying away from the shutterbuck for an extended period of time following her marriage, like several other prominent names of her generation, Sonali Bendre returned to public life as a judge of reality television.

But it was after her being diagnosed with cancer that she became relatable to hundreds of fans who have gone through the struggle and well wishes poured in for her speedy recovery.

Twinkle Khanna

After failing miserably in acting, Twinkle Khanna found her niche in literature. She has authored three books, her debut in literature being Mrs Funnybones was well-received by her newly-found fandom.

When not writing a book, Twinkle manages to stay in news for her views on socio-political issues, often expressed via the micro-blogging site, Twitter. She is also a columnist with Times Of India and turned producer with Tees Maar Khan.

Urmila Matondkar

Though we don’t remember it for the best reasons, the last traceable movie of this ’Rangeela’ girl was Karzzz, that had released in 2008. But she has bounced back to relevance ever since contesting as a Congress candidate at the Lok Sabha elections last year.

If the eye-brow raising statements she made during the campaign were not enough to create a buzz, months after the elections she resigned from the party, again, making some shocking statements about the party of affiliation.
