Prof. Karunakara N - Scientist of Eminence

Mangaluru, Oct 13, 2018: He is a scientist of eminence who has developed a technology that has wide applications in Uranium and Thorium processing facilities. Prof. Karunakara N, Professor in University Science Instrumentation Centre of Mangalore University is an outstanding scientist who has proved his excellence in more ways than one. The technology he developed in collaboration with  Bhabha Atomic Research Centre aims at mitigation of radon and thoron for thorium processing facilities. The Sir C V Raman Young Scientist State Award in the field of Physical Sciences and Mathematics for the year 2017 given by the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, has rightly come his way.

Prof. Karunakara has an M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D in Physics from Mangalore University. He has established the Centre for Advanced Research in Environmental Radioactivity (CARER) in Mangalore University with state-of-the-art nuclear radiation measurement systems. He has published 70 research papers in journals and presented 138 research papers in conferences of national and international repute Prof. Karunakara is a Member of Indian Association for Radiation Protection and is a Life Member of Nuclear Track Society of India and Geochemical Society of India. He is a recipient of several awards including the Dr A. K. Ganguly Award and ISRP-NUCLEONIX Award.
