Mangaluru, Dec 24, 2014: A religious leader with a rich experience in pastoral and academic fields now heads the Church of South India (CSI) Karnataka Diocese. Rev. Mohan Manoraj from Mysuru who recently took charge as the new Bishop of CSI is a leader of great caliber. After assuming the high office he has vowed to work for the welfare of the society as a Bishop of the People.
Ordained as Deacon in 1986 and Presbyter in 1989, Rev. Mohan Manoraj has a B.A. and M.A. degrees in Sociology from Mysuru University and a Bachelor of Divinity (B.D.) degree from Karnataka Theological College, Balmatta apart from a M.Th degree in Social Analysis. He has served as a lecturer at Karnataka Theological College in the city. As a Diocesan he has worked in Mandya, Chamrajnagar, Mysuru and Kodagu districts.
Also known for his community development initiatives, Rev. Mohan Manoraj was part of the Anti-Nuclear Protest Bicycle Jatha in Gujarat as a representative of Karnataka. He even played a key role in uniting farm labourers belonging to the unorganized sector at Chittur in Andhra Pradesh and encouraged them to kick-start a movement demanding higher wages.
As a Bishop, he has some community service projects on mind including opening old age homes, introduction of medical insurance and burial fund schemes and improving Diocesan schools, colleges and hospitals.
