Mangaluru, Feb 25, 2015: From a school teacher to a police officer. This is the interesting story of the life of Dr HN Venkatesh Prasanna, presently posted as DySP in the office of Western Range IGP. He is adamant when it comes to cracking cases and never rests until he succeeds. His never say die attitude has helped him bust many a case including high-profile cases involving underworld elements and even extremists. His achievements are many and the President’s Medal which was announced for him recently comes as a crowning glory.
Hailing from Kigga in Shringeri, Venkatesh Prasanna underwent TCH training after his elementary education. He even studied Sanskrit and Vedas and began his career as a school teacher. Alongside he did his graduation through correspondence and then went on to do his MA in Kannada and B.Ed from Kuvempu University. He then appeared for the UPSC exams and secured the 21st rank in 1993.
The turning point in his career came the very next year when he joined the Police Department as an SI. In 2002 he was promoted as inspector and he later served the State Intelligence Department and even in Mangaluru South, Udupi, Mulki and other places. He even was part of DCIB and CCB as Inspector.
Academics interests this officer very much and testimony to this is his securing Ph.D from Hampi University for his thesis on ‘Police System in pre-independence Karnataka.’The officer says he is presently working on another thesis. His quest for knowledge and his indomitable spirit are worth emulating.
