MP tells Navayuga to complete flyover works by December

Mangaluru, Jun 22, 2018 : Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha Member Nalin Kumar Kateel on June 21, Thursday warned Navayuga Udupi Tollway Pvt. Ltd. to complete construction of flyovers at Pumpwell and Thokkottu on National Highway 66 by December, failing which he will be forced to lead the people and seek an end to toll collection at Talapady and Hejmady.

The government has been earning a bad name for the inordinate delay in the completion of four-laning of Talapady-Kundapur stretch of National Highway 66 that was taken up eight years ago, Mr. Kateel regretted at a review meeting attended by officials of NHAI and others at his office here. The contract, entered into about eight years ago, gives little scope to the government to intervene, he revealed. Despite the many deadlines, Navayuga has failed to complete the work and it is shame on the company, the MP said. By completing work on road stretches and leaving out crucial junctions, Navayuga has been collecting toll on the premise that 90 % of the work was completed. Though stopping toll collection could be illegal, he has no other way but to join the angry people, he said.
