City Police chief inspects traffic issues.

Mangaluru:  Police commissioner Vipul Kumar toured the prominent roads in the city to inspect on the spot since May 24,Thursday.   A major effort to streamline and improve the traffic movement in the city has been taken up.

 As he was inspecting the current works  he also discussed future works that need to be taken with traffic police officials.    Many of the public have pointed out that proper traffic circles are needed at several places to improve safety and insure free flow of traffic during peak times.

Primarily, importance of the work is given to the installation of cones near bus bays and places giving rise to traffic problems and painting of zebra crossing for easy crossing for the pedestrian. To ease the movement of the traffic, cones have been installed at various location in the city including P.V.S. junction, Bunts hostel road, Pandeshwar railway gate, U.P.Mallya road bus bay, Kankanady by-pass road, Sharavu temple road, Kodial Guttu, Gokarnatha College. Urwa market, City Centre, Srinivas hotel, Tagore park at light house hill road, St.Aloysius College, Hampankatta and other places. Action has been taken against haphazardly parked vehicles along road sides.


Govt sets up reward schemes for Swachh Bharat programmes.


 Mangaluru: The government has decided to do Swachhata programme through the youth under the cooperation of Nehru Yuva Kendra of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Ministry of Drinking water and cleanliness with sponsorship from Swachh Bharat summer of Prime Minister Swaachhata programme.

The programme began from May 1st and will run till July 31st at 1 hour per day for a total of 100 hours and members of the youth group merged under Nehru Yuva Kendra can participate in it. Participants must register themselves within June 15th.

Classes will be conducted to sensitize rural people on cleanliness. Giving information on precautions from the point of view of the health, street plays to promote cleanliness habit, rally, cultural programme, educating people on the problems arising from not maintaining toilet hygiene, washing of hands, knowledge on hygiene and use of things to maintain the habit of hygiene, going door to door to spread information of hygiene, activities related to solid waste management, awareness activities on waste collection, separation facility and free clean environment, creation of care committee to stop open defecation in villages, construction of toilets and assisting in the construction of toilets and many other programmes will be conducted. 

The participants need to clock in 100 hours of conducting programmes from May 1st to July 30th and submit a daily detailed report on activities done every day with proof of photo, video and paper cuttings to sbsi.mygov.in.

Prizes : A certificate of participation in Swachh Bharat summer sponsored programme will be given to participants who have done a good job. First prize of 30,000 rupees, second prize of 20,000 rupees and third prize of 10,000 rupees will be given on the district level. On the state level the first prize will be 50,000 rupees, second prize 30,000 rupees and third prize of 20,000 rupees. The national level first prize will be 2,00,000 rupees, second price 2,00,000 rupees and the third prize will be 50,000 rupees, informed Nehru Yuva Kendra district youth coordination officer.
