Police chief hears routine complaints at weekly phone in

Mangaluru, Apr 16, 2018 : City resident projected that  some autorickshaw drivers at the prepaid booth at Mangaluru Junction railway station overcharge consumers, Police Commissioner T.R. Suresh was informed during a phone-in programme on April 13, Friday. It was also brought to his notice that the auto-prepaid counter must open early in time to cater to early morning trains.

A caller alleged that the person managing the counter said it was usual for autorickshaw drivers to charge 1.5 times the fixed fare when they go to faraway locations. The caller had no other option but to make the payment.

Police chief,  Suresh said it was illegal for autorickshaws to charge excess fare during daytime. He asked the caller to send him a copy of the receipt issued and promised to take action against the agency managing the counter.

Another resident of Kankanady told the commissioner about the frequent traffic jams near Father Muller Hospital Junction, caused by motorists stopping their vehicles to buy medicines. Directing officers to book cases against such motorists, Chief  Suresh told them to go ahead with installing a barricade to prevent parking of vehicles.

A caller from Gorigudde asked the police to take action against buses going towards Bantwal that were holding up traffic by stopping near Bhagwan Mahaveer Junction. A caller from Bikarnakatte asked the police to prevent haphazard parking of two-wheelers and cars, when people come for prayer at two places of worship.

A caller from Moodbidri asked the police to conduct a drive against vehicles using LED lights and causing problems to other motorists.

Harassment :  On a complaint by a woman of being harassed by a few persons at the Lady Goschen Hospital bus stop, Police chief  Suresh said policemen in plainclothes would be deputed to catch the offenders.

A caller from Kadri complained that conductors of KSRTC buses on routes 61 and 63 were not issuing tickets. He also alleged that KSRTC buses on routes 13 and 15 were not plying as per the prescribed route.  Several other routine complaints were lodged and action is awaited for long.
