Mangaluru, Mar 27, 2018: Mahalasa College of Visual Art will organise an annual art exhibition ‘Vibrance-The fusion of colours’ at the college, between 10.30 am to 5 pm, from March 28 to April 2.

Addressing media in Mangaluru on March 26,  Monday, college principal Purushottam Nayak said that the art exhibition would coincide with the 40th anniversary of the college.

Around 500 artworks of 135 students of the college will be featured during the exhibition. The artworks include line drawings, model drawings, still paintings, two-dimensional designs, graphic art, kinnala art, contemporary art and so on.

The art expo will be inaugurated by Karnataka Legislative Council Opposition party chief whip Capt Ganesh Karnik at 11 am, on March 27. Collegiate Education department joint director Mahesh Rao will release the achievement record book for the year 2017-18. Sri Mahalasa Shikshana Samiti founder T Taranath Pai will launch the website of the college. Vijaya Art Institute, Gadag, principal R D Kadlikopp will release the awards portfolio. Retired drawing teacher Subrahmanya, artist and Karnataka Lalitakala Academy member Rajendra Kedige and Yakshagana instructor Ashok Bolur will be the chief guests. Sri Mahalasa Shikshana Samiti director Babu Rao will preside, he said.

Applied Arts director B P Mohan Kumar and drawing department head N S Pattar, lecturers K T Nagaraju and Syed Asif Ali were present at the press meet.

Psychiatry and Narcotics helpline, Yenepoya to  launch today

The Psychiatry department of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) will launch a psychiatry and narcotics helpline for the benefit of patients having psychological and addiction issues.

The helpline would be officially launched by Mangaluru Mayor K Bhaskar on March 27 at 9.30 pm.

People looking for help could contact the helpline number 9108919025 after its official launch.

Round-the-clock service

Addressing media, associate professor and the HOD of Psychiatry department, Dr Anil Kakunje said that the helpline will function round-the-clock and on all 365 days.

The helpline is an initiative by the psychiatry department of the college and Mission Angel Dust. People with psychological distress, suicidal tendency or drug addiction may seek help from the counselors on the helpline.

“Last week, a trail run of the helpline was conducted and the department recieved calls from overseas as well,” he said.

Workshop :  Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) Registrar Dr Shreekumar Menon and Associate Professor Shemjaz were also present during the press meet.

A two-day workshop on the topic ‘Transactional Analysis 101’ will also be inaugurated on the occasion.
