Inaugurations for 65 works worth Rs 2,000 crore, today

Mar 06, 2018: Foundation for development works worth Rs 2,266.65 crore, including the 65 Smart City projects worth Rs 2,000 crore, will be laid today,  March 6, said city  Mayor Kavitha Sanil.

Briefing media March 5,  Monday, she said that under the Smart City project the construction of a private bus stand at Pumpwell (Rs 400 crore), a multi level car parking at Hampankatte (Rs 98 crore), Central Command Control Centre (Rs 49 crore), Central Market (Rs 50 crore), Clock Tower (Rs 90 lakh) and an underpass near Town hall (Rs 5 crore) among other projects will be undertaken.

She said that the Smart City Board has approved the private bus stand at Pumpwell. It will be placed before the Cabinet for approval. The bus stand will have 197 bus bays and the work will be taken up on PPP mode.

MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer said instead of the skywalk project, that would connect the Town Hall side with the Mini-Vidhana Soudha side near the heavily crowded area of Hampankatte, the MCC has decided to take up the work on underpass. The work on the Central Market will be taken up in phased manner, and while the work in in progress, the merchants will temporarily be accommodated behind the football ground and in the street vendors zone.

Mayor said that the ground-breaking ceremony for the work to replace underground sewage main pumping line (trunk line) at a cost of Rs 93.55 crore, works on rectifying the missing links of main sewer lines under Amrut scheme at a cost of Rs 61.30 crore and 19 other works under the premium FAR grant at a cost of Rs 37.75 crore will be held.

Further she said that the foundation stone for Kadri Market and commercial complex at a cost of Rs 16 crore and Kankanady Market and commercial complex at a cost of Rs 42.50 crore will also be held.

Under Nagarothana second phase special grant, three roads would be developed at a cost of Rs 7.45 crore and six roads will be developed under Nagarothana third phase grant at a cost of Rs 9.90 crore.

Some of the roads to be developed are Kankanady Fr Muller Junction to Pumpwell Junction, Guthugudde to Bajal Convent, Padil J M Road to Bajal Church, Ekkur Pakkaladka J M Road to Bajal Road.

Indira canteens  :  The Mayor said that four   Indira canteens at Urwastore, Nehru Maidan, Kavoor and Surathkal will also be inaugurated on the occasion. The work on Indira canteen at Pumpwell was delayed. The master kitchen of the Indira canteen will be at Urwastore. The Mangaluru City Corporation has earmarked Rs 2.25 crore for the supply of food at Indira canteens in its budget.
