Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Feb 28, 2018: Vijay Garg, vice president of the Council of Architecture (COA), appealed to the public to inform the COA of any person falsely claiming to be a registered architect and misusing the title of an architect.

He was speaking at a meet organised in association with the Indian Institute of Architects-Mangalore Manipal Centre (IIA-MMC). Garg said many unqualified people calling themselves architects are undertaking construction of buildings which is uneconomical, unscientific and quite frequently unsafe, thus bringing disrepute to the profession of architects.

Need for regulation   :   Various organisations including Indian Institute of Architects have repeatedly emphasised the need for statutory regulation to protect the general public from unqualified people working as architects, he added.

Garg also said that any person wishing to be an architect must have registered himself with the Council of Architecture. COA has been constituted under the provisions of Architects Act 1972. Fake architects are punishable under Section 36 or 37 (2) of the Architects Act.
