Two arrested on rape charge

Puttur feb 23 2018: The Puttur Rural Police on Thursday arrested two persons allegedly involved in a case of sexual assault on a 27-year-old woman on February 15.

The police gave the names of the arrested persons as Kushalappa and Dhananjaya.

The police said that Kushalappa and Dhananjaya took the woman from her sister’s house on the pretext of going to a temple fair nearby on the night of February 15.

The two are said to have taken the woman to a house in Uppinangady and sexually assaulted her.

Another rape

A worker in a stone quarrying unit in Badagannur village has been accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl. The incident came to light when doctors at the Eshwarmangala Primary Health Centre on Thursday found the girl to be four months pregnant.

The police said that Paresh, a native of Gadag district, befriended the girl and sexually assaulted her. The police have registered a case under POCSO Act against Paresh who is absconding.
