National level seminar on food and human welfare from today

Mangaluru, Feb 15, 2018: Departments of botany, chemistry, microbiology, physics and zoology of St Agnes College are organizing a DBT, union ministry of science and technology sponsored two-day national level seminar on food and human welfare- future and beyond from February 15. The aim of the seminar organized under star college status is to create awareness among teaching and student fraternity about the importance of food, health and human welfare in modern age

Sr M Jeswina, principal informed media the seminar for college lecturers and students aims to provide a comprehensive overview of current research and a unique opportunity for students to interact and revitalize research attitude and to present scientific posters. There will be seven sessions on different topics by eminent scientists such as traditional sweets - a functional approach by Dr Chethana R, Central Food Technology Research Institute CFTRI), Mysuru.


The other topics include scenario of Indian ethnic fermented foods and beverages by Suresh Kumar, Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology, Tanjavore, BT crops for food security by Vasanth Kumar, Green Life Science Technologies Ltd, Mysuru, modern trends in food toxicology, food safety and food quality Shamshad Begum, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, probiotics in health and nutrition by Prathap Kumar Shetty H, Pondicherry University.


Mukul Das, senior scientist, CSIR - Indian Institute of Research, Lucknow will inaugurate the seminar at 9.30am and deliver the keynote address. Sr Jeswina, principal, will preside over the inaugural programme. Valedictory programme will be held on February 16 at 2.30 pm and Prathap Kumar Shetty H, professor and scientist, Pondicherry University, Pondicherry will be the chief guest and deliver the valedictory address, Sr Jeswina, stated.
