Mangalore University to hold placement drive, February 17

Mangaluru, Feb 12, 2018: Briefing media, DK DC  Sasikanth Senthil said that the district administration, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader in association with Centre for Entrepreneurship Opportunities and Learning (CEOL) and Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodbidri will organise “Disha,” a career fest 2018, a mega placement drive, at Mangalore University campus, on February 17.

 the DC  said that the fair would cater to the employment needs of students who have passed with qualifications such as SSLC, PUC, degree, postgraduate and other courses except engineering. More than 150 companies are expected to take part.

He said as of now, 66 companies have registered to take part in the drive. Companies representing IT and ITeS, banking, and financial services, sales and retail, manufacturing, hospitality, education, NGO and automobile will participate. As of now, the companies will be scouting candidates for 3470 vacancies. A total of 1,168 candidates have already registered so far. Companies taking part will be from different regions representing Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka.

There are 1842 vacancies for SSLC, 1164 vacancies for ITI/diploma, 2233 for degree and 937 vacancies for PG students.

Stating that CEOL is based at the incubation centre at Kadri-Mallikatte, the deputy commissioner said that the CEOL is a society registered under the chairmanship of deputy commissioner with representatives from Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, bankers, educational institutions. It will help students in getting information on job opportunities. All those who registered for Disha job fair will be registered with CEOL, to create a database. Job aspirants will get a message on their mobile phones on the job openings every week, he explained. The portal of CEOL will be launched shortly, wherein job aspirants can register for employment with a nominal fee.

Stating that CEOL has been functioning well in Raichur, the DC said that in Raichur, the job aspirants contribute 10 % of their first salary to the CEOL after they get a job through CEOL.

He said that the Department of Employment has given Rs 25 lakh for hosting this placement drive. Disha, the placement drive will be a continuous process and will be held twice or thrice in a year.

Candidates are requested to bring with them 8 to 10 passport size photographs, multiple copies of updated resume and photocopies of all marks cards. They must report to the venue at 8 am.
