Port agents’ workers strike asked to be withdrawn

Feb 07, 2018: Deputy Labour Commissioner ( DLC-Central) K.V. Subramanian on  Feb 6, Tuesday directed the All India Port Workers Federation, which is spearheading strike of New Mangalore Port Trust Agents’ workers since January 29, to withdraw the strike.

In a conciliation meeting at NMPT,  DLC Subramanian advised the NMPT to issue directions to all agencies and companies working for the port to strictly comply with all laws concerning welfare, wages and other statutory requirements in respect of their workers.

DLC  Subramanian has advised all employers not to victimise any of the workers or change their working or take any action against their interest. He asked some firms to withdraw unconditionally notices issued to some employees. All stakeholders have been advised to maintain peace and cooperate in early settlement of issues within two months.

The workers were on strike demanding implementation of labour law for drivers and other workers of agencies rendering service to NMPT.
