CPR a must for Scouts and Guides : DC

Mangaluru, Feb 06 2018: Presiding over the district-level merit certificate distribution programme of Scouts and Guides in the DC Bungalow at Collector’s Gate, Balmatta, in the city, the DK Deputy Commissioner, who is also the District Scouts and Guides President, Sasikanth Senthil called upon Scouts and Guides to get themselves acquainted with CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation), so that they may provide timely assistance to the needy.

 He went on to say, that CPR training should be carried out to make students acquainted with first-aid skill, so they can give first-aid to people during accidents. Many lives can be saved by teaching them the skill, he said.

Making a strong point,  he was a scout himself, Senthil opined that the discipline he inculcated during those days taught him many practical  lessons. Narrating the story of a boatman and three scholars, the DC stressed on the importance of learning life skills other than just regular school curriculum, as these skills help them to lead an ideal life.


Bharat Scouts and Guides district Commissioner N G Mohan said that the aim of the district Scouts and Guides is to increase the number of scouts and guides in the district to one lakh. “Currently, there are about 45,745 Scouts and Guides in the district and about 4,50,000 in the state. The district strength comprises of the 10 % of the state,” he said and requested the education department to initiate steps in all education institutions towards making their students part of Scouts and Guides.The DC distributed merit certificates to children who have successfully completed the Tritiya Charana Cubs, Suvarnapankh Bulbuls, Tritiya Sopana Scouts, Tritiya Sopana Guides, Pravin Rovers and Pravin Rangers examinations. Swathi Bhat, I PU student from Canara PU College, Mangaluru, who won the highest marks in Guides, was presented with an award.
