Jan 30 2018: The II Additional District and Sessions Judge, Sarvodaya Shettigar, on Jan 29, Monday sentenced a 47-year-old man to seven years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 30,000 on finding him guilty of raping his 17-year-old daughter.  The Bajpe police arrested the 47-year-old man following a complaint from his daughter in 2014.

In the charge-sheet, the police said that the man was staying with his daughter and his sister-in-law following the death of his wife.

When his sister-in-law went to work, the man sexually assaulted his daughter. The harassed daughter approached the Childline for help.  She then filed a complaint accusing her father of sexually assaulting her several times.

The judge, after hearing 16 witnesses, convicted the man for the offence of sexually assaulting a minor under Section 4 the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code.

Out of the fine amount of Rs. 30,000, the judge directed that the convicted man pay Rs. 20,000 as compensation to his daughter.
