24th Alva’s Virasat all set to open Friday

Mangaluru, Jan 11, 2018: The 24th edition of the annual cultural extravaganza of Alva’s Education Foundation—Alva’s Virasat, will open tomorrow January 12 and continue to 14 at Vanajakshi K Sripathy Bhat stage in Moodbidri.

 Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva said that Alva’s Virasat, which has emerged as a major cultural extravaganza, promises to be a treat for music and dance lovers this year as well. ‘Alva’s Virasat 2018’ award would be conferred on well-known Hindustani classical singers Pandith Rajan Sajan Mishra. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a memento and citation.

Rajan (born 1951) and Sajan (born 1956) Mishra were born and brought up in Varanasi. Part of a 300-year-old lineage of khyal singing of the Banaras Gharana, the Mishra brothers have been performing to audiences all over India and the world for many years.

Chief guests  :  While Nagaland Governor P B Acharya will inaugurate the Alva’s Virasat, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade will preside. The chief guests include MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA K Abhayachandra Jain, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik and DK DC S Sasikanth Senthil.

Cultural shows :  The inauguration tomorrow January 12 will be followed by a musical evening by popular Bollywood playbacks  K K and troupe from Mumbai at 7 pm. It will be followed by ‘Devara Nama’ by Sooryagayathri and troupe from Kerala (9 pm to 9.20 pm), dance programme Sanathana Rashtramrutha by Sanathana Natyalaya artistes (9.25 pm to 9.40 pm), ‘Dapputtu’ from Kerala (9.45 pm to 9.55 pm) and a dance variety by Alva’s students from 10 pm onwards.

On day two, a musical evening will be performed by Shankar Mahadevan-Ehsan-Loy-Siddarth Mahadevan troupe from Mumbai, which will be followed by Mrudanga Tharanga (8.35 pm to 8.55 pm), Kathak dance (9 pm to 9.40 pm), Karavali Vaibhava (9.45 pm to 9.55 pm) followed by variety entertainment by Alva’s students.

The last day’s programmes would begin with conferring of Varna Virasat award on  well-known painter and classical singer Shobha Broota. The award comprises cash prize of Rs 25,000, memento and citation.

It will be followed by musical evening by Kailash Kher and troupe from Mumbai, which will be followed by Magic of Mandolin, Odissi dance and variety entertainment programme by Alva’s students.

Seating arrangements have been made for 40,000 persons and free bus transport has been arranged from Moodbidri (at 5 pm) and to Moodbidri after the programme, Dr Alva informed.
