Tulu in ’Eighth Schedule’ a must.

Mangaluru, Dec 11, 2017: The first Bantwal Taluk Tulu Sahitya Sammelan on Dec 10,  Sunday stressed the need to include Tulu in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

Addressing a gathering at the inaugural session at BC Road, Malar Jayaram Rai, president of the sammelan, said that other minority languages such as Sindhi, Nepali, Konkani and Manipuri have been included in the Eighth Schedule.

But Tulu spoken by about five million people has not received due recognition, he said.

B. Ramanath Rai, Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada, inaugurated the sammelan. A.C. Bhandary, chairman, Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, spoke.
