Mangaluru, Aug 12,2017: A young man of Dakshina Kannada, a car driver in Qatar faced ignominy and it  ended only after his friends working in Saudi Arabia took up his case and ensured he reached home in DK district. Abdul Hameed from Killur village in Belthangady, was trapped in a job where he had no rest hours. His normal workday involved driving heavy vehicles continuously for 20 hours a day.

When the Karnataka Cultural Foundation (KCF), a socio-cultural organization of NRI Kannadigas, was informed, arrangements were made to repatriate him.

Hameed, in his mid-30s, who was working as a light vehicle driver in Qatar for several years, changed his company when offered a better pay package three months ago. "I was made to work for about 20 hours a day. I had to rush whenever I get calls," he said.

His efforts to get help from the embassy went in vain. He called all his friends in the Gulf countries. Finally, one of his friends in Saudi Arabia brought Hameed’s issue to the notice of the KCF. With KCF help, Hameed took off from Qatar on August 4 and reached home safely.
