Study of banking, Wikipedia in new scheme for under graduate students

Mangaluru, July 17,2017:It is understood that the new degree students of Mangalore University, who have opted for Kannada language paper, now study diverse topics like mobile banking, writing for Wikipedia, dialects of Kannada, details of GST, how to write Kannada correctly, and how to face competitive examinations.

The Board of Studies in Kannada at the university has revised the syllabi of Kannada language paper from the current academic year. Students study the revised contents in four semesters during 2017-19.

The Kannada language text books and their contents differed for courses like B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., and BSW.

The changes have been made to make Kannada more relevant and interesting to students, said B. Shivarama Shetty, chairperson, Board of Studies in Kannada and Chief Editor of the text books.

For example, now B. Com. students in the first semester study mobile banking.

It covers how to download apps of banks, how to activate the account, how to transfer money, BHIM app, mobile wallets, how to book tickets via mobile, and the like.

B.A. and BSW students in the first semester study how to write articles for Wikipedia and how to edit articles on Wikipedia, etc. Students are introduced to Tulu, Konkani, Kodava and Beary.

Kannada dialects : They also study some Kannada dialects. For instance, Kannada spoken in the Hubballi-Dharwad region differs from the one spoken in the coastal belt.  Thus, students are exposed to different forms of Kannada. They also study about sexuality minorities.  A chapter on snakes has also been included to remove misconceptions about them.

The university normally  revises the syllabi once in three years it was mentioned.
