State badminton tourney May 18 to 21, a mega attraction in Udupi

Udupi, May 18, 2017: The Udupi District Badminton Association will be organising the Prakash M. Kodavoor Memorial Karnataka State Junior Ranking Tournament for Under 17 and Under 19 boys and girls at the District Indoor Stadium here from May 18 to 21.  Around 300 boys and girls have already registered for the tournament. The total budget for the conduct of the tournament is estimated at Rs. 5 lakh.

In a media interaction K. Raghupati Bhat, president of the District Badminton Association and the former MLA, said that the tournament was being held for the second consecutive year under the aegis of the Karnataka Badminton Association.

The events include the Under 17 boys singles, Under 17 boys doubles, Under 17 girls singles, Under 17 girls doubles, Under 19 boys singles, Under 19 doubles, Under 19 girls singles, Under 19 girls doubles, and Under 19 mixed doubles.

A player cannot participate in more than three events in the tournament. Already about 300 boys and girls have registered for the tournament. About 50 are expected to register within two days. The winners in the tournament will be given cash prizes and certificates.    The registration fee for the singles event was Rs. 250, while it was Rs. 500 for doubles event. The qualifying round will be held on May 18, while the maindraw will be held from May 19 to 21.

 Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Services, and Sports Pramod Madhwaraj will inaugurate the event at 10.30 a.m. on May 18. Vinay Kumar Sorake, MLA for Kaup and H.S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University, will be the guests at the valedictory of the tournament and distribute the prizes at 5.30 p.m. on May 21,  Bhat said.
