Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Nov 3: The plastic surgery department of A J Hospital, led by Dr Kadam, is well-known for the successful microvascular and cosmetic surgeries it has performed. AJ Hospital’s team of surgeons has performed 500 microvascular surgeries since 2004; and currently, it performs more than 100 plastic surgeries on a monthly basis.

Microvascular surgery requires immense surgical skills because it involves performing a delicate surgery under an operating microscope. The tiniest of blood vessels need to be rejoined and the blood circulations needs to the reestablished thereafter. Moreover, the patient requires intensive care immediately after the surgery.

The hospital has successfully rejoined amputated limbs in case of several patients, who are now leading perfectly normal lives. Recently, the hospital performed two more successful microvascular surgeries in case of patients Shakita (36) and Lokesh (32).

Shakita, employed at an industry, had lost her forearm while at work. Her coworkers had rushed her to AJ hospital where the limb was rejoined in a microvascular surgical procedure that lasted 8 hours. Lokesh had lost 3 fingers of his left hand, and the team of microvascular surgeons at AJ Hospital spent 6 hours to rejoin the fingers.

The team that worked on these patients comprised Dr Sanath Bhandary, Dr. Shridar Shetty, and Dr. Rajesh Hukkeri led by Dr. Dinesh Kadam. The anesthetist was Dr. Trivikrama Tantry.
