Cricketer Yuvraj to auction trophies for Cansurvive cause

Mangaluru, Jan 22, 2017: As part of Cansurvive campaign, an initiative of medical staff and students, cricketer Yuvraj Singh has offered to auction eight memorabilia. The auction will be organised at City Centre in Mangaluru on January 26, Republic day.

Dr Rohith Pinto of Fr Muller Medical College Hospital made a statement to media that Fr Muller Medical College has partnered with ’YouWeCan’, an initiative taken up by Yuvraj Singh Foundation, to fight against cancer. Accordingly, Yuvraj Singh has sent two cricket balls, three T-shirts with a personal message and three caps with his autograph for auctioning. The amount collected will go towards ’Cansurvive’ fund to aid patients with curable cancer who need financial assistance.

He said Cansurvive campaign is organised to create awareness as well as to raise funds for patients with curable cancer. The campaign will start with a ’Lavender ribbon drive’ on January 22. Lavender ribbons are symbolic of offering support towards creating awareness on curable cancer. As part of the campaign, these ribbons can be worn from January 22 till February 11 and are available across 20 associate partner stores in the city. As many as 20,000 ribbons would also be distributed during this tenure.

On January 26, a bike rally by Frontline automobiles Royal Enfield and other entertainment activities will be held. Another highlight would be sale of jewellery by students of Fr Muller Medical College, baked goodies as well as mannequin challenge, polaroid picture shots and others.

Music Shows : Dr Pinto said that two bands of the city ’Sea Seven’ and ’Splitfingers’ will present ’The Gala’, an evening of music and entertainment at Spindrift on February 3. During the gala, an auction of autographed merchandise from Yuvraj Singh along with a painting by renowned artist Darren Mascarenhas will also be held.


 In addition, ’Run for a cause’, a 5-km run will be organised at 6.15 am on February 5 from Fr Muller Medical College stadium which will be flagged off by Mangalore’s Superbike’s Association. Cancer survivors, Olympian Vandana Rao and paralympic athletes will also take part in the run.  The session will also include a training by Ground Sports Fitness, he said. Naveen Richards, a stand-up comedian of international fame will showcase ’Laugh out loud’, a comedy night at Academy hall auditorium of Fr Muller institutions from 7.30 pm on February 11.
