MCC must pay compensation: Ivan D’Souza

Mangalore, Mar 14: Ivan D’Souza, the vice president of the DK district congress, urged the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) to take strict action against contractors who have caused death and injury to innocent citizens by their carelessness in not following the required standards of safety during the road concretization process. 

During a protest staged at Valencia Circle, Mangalore, Mr. D’Souza demanded that the MCC must play compensation to those people who have suffered injuries during the concretization work. He said that two people have already died and more than 100 people have sustained injuries because the contractors have neglected standards of safety.

He demanded that the MCC should inform the public how much of the Rs 100 crore fund earmarked for concretization of roads was actually released by the state government. He said that, during the past six months, only 100 meters of road was concretized in Valencia. 

Corporators Appi, Nagendra Kumar, Jacinta Alfred, Suresh Babu, Gretta Rebello, and Mr. M G Hegde, the Congress spokesperson also participated in the protest.
